Tragedy at the Home

Sadly, today as I was making my rounds, I found all three baby birdies on the ground of the carport. None were ready to leave, as they had few feathers and could really barely hold their necks erect.

Sadly, one was already in birdy heaven. I carefully got the other two into a dustpan, then into a garden spade, and replaced them in the nest, all without putting my humanly scent on them. The mother bird seemed to think that was all right.

Unfortunately, one birdy had a self-destructive bent to it, and continued to throw itself out of the nest, despite my effort after the second fall, to construct a cardboard patio beside the nest. Finally, after its third fall, it succeeded in joining its birdy sibling in heaven.

The remaining birdy is in the nest, but at last inspection, did not appear to be moving. Should this be the case, and no babies are left, then the nest shall be taken down, in light of Sunday's conversation dealing with death and beds.

On another note, the squirrels have figured out the squirrel feeder. I am continuing to move it closer to the fence. We'll see if it works.

On another note, I am considering removing the cat door from my window. I think Shaggy is dumber than the squirrels, and will never figure the door out. I fear the squirrels will, once they figure out the feeder.

That is all for my wildlife post.

This is a truly fantastic post that caused me to laugh out loud. And then, I wondered what it means that the second batch of birdies, all of whom perished, was tied to my family.

It means that:

a) your family would rather perish than live here

b) there is a psychological connection that you will learn about in graduate school

c) there will be no more naming of birdies

d) better questions would be:
1. Who passed on first?
2. Who was so totally self- destructive?
