Lessons from Columbus - November 2007

Here's what I learned in less than 24 hours in Columbus:

  • Granddaddy likes to buy cars - but not drive them.
  • Mississippi State will be playing in a bowl game - we're just not sure which one. Although, lots of people have opinions about this.
  • The Better Homes and Gardens Guide to Decorating 1991 is still the gold standard when it comes to home decorating literature.
  • Granddaddy is both a Junior Ranger at Yellowstone and a Battalion Chief at Disney World.
  • You can transport a dead deer on top of a 4-wheeler that is sitting on a trailer.
  • The dress code for Guthrie's in Hamilton, Alabama is camo.
  • At this same Guthrie's, 'chicken sandwich' is code for 'chicken fingers.'
  • Mom and Netty love recycled salad dressing.
  • I now know where they keep the potatoes at Old Hickory Steakhouse.
  • The new Santa Fe restaurant looks nice.
  • When staying at the Wingate Inn, ask for a ground level room away from the pool. You won't regret it.
  • If you don't want to mess up your new floor mats, get more floor mats to put on top of them.
  • When going to the movies at Malco, never pick the far right line to buy tickets. This is the line for stupid questions and indecisiveness.
  • On a road trip, Red Box is your friend.
  • If you ever need to get candy, a pet snake, gas and a tan all at the same time, I know a great place...
